August Röting
August Röting (1814–1862?) was one of the grooms who relocated with Prince Albert to England in 1840. Despite intensive research in the Coburg and Windsor archives, he has only been found in a census of 1841. There he was listed as Augustus Roting, 30 years old, and described as Groom. At the time, he was living in The Royal Mews in Pimlico, London.
A Frederica Roting, female, also 30 years old, was listed directly below him. She could only have been his wife. Both were noted down as not having been born in this country in the column “Where Born – Whether Born in same Country” (England). Therefore, they must have come together from Coburg to England. Frederica appears one more time in a list of pensions granted to servants, paid by Prince Albert. There, listed as Roeting F., it was noted that she received about £14 as a pension, starting in 1862. Pensions to the wives of servants were usually paid after the husband’s death, which indicates that August probably passed away in 1862. Frederica’s pension payments ceased in 1864, indicating that she died that year.
Whether the couple had children or not could not be determined yet, as so far, no mention of children has been found.
